When Debra joined the TwinLogic team in September 2016, she brought broad substantive experience and deep ties after more than two decades of working for Congress and the Administration—particularly on international trade policy and immigration, with involvement in diversity and inclusion, education, tax, intellectual property, technology and telecommunications.
Debra served as chief of staff to Congressman Xavier Becerra from 2005 to 2014 with oversight of his Capitol, district and Democratic Caucus leadership offices. She first joined Congressman Becerra’s team as counsel to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus under his chairmanship in the 105th Congress, and was responsible for issues relating to immigration, economic development, and the federal budget. Subsequent roles in the office included legislative director and trade counsel.
Debra started her career as a U.S. Department of Justice attorney, first as a law clerk in the Chicago Immigration Court and leaving DOJ as a Senior Attorney Advisor at the Board of Immigration Appeals. Her most recent role in the federal government was as chief of staff at the U.S. Department of Education in the Office of Planning, Evaluation and Policy Development.
A graduate of Wheaton College in Illinois, Debra earned a law degree from the Ohio State University and an LL.M. with an emphasis on international trade from Georgetown University Law Center.
